Teenage girls are going missing across Liverpool and the police are no closer to identifying the killer. When the third victim, Kelly Stack, is discovered on the banks of the Mersey, the police have no alternative but to call for help. DCI de Silva hasn’t been to work in months. Reeling from the suicide of her husband and dragged down by the undertow of PTSD, she’s been living in self-imposed exile. This case should have been DS Barclay’s opportunity to finally show himself to be more than what everybody assumes, an exercise in diversity, being a gay man in the police, but instead he’s floundering. De Silva and Barclay must exorcise their own demons to stop more victims suffering, all while dealing with a traumatised and escalating killer, who is hellbent on finding somebody from his past.
