While on the other side of the valley, Samuel Beauclair tries to regain some semblance of happiness, Saul Miller, a brilliant university professor and professor of astrophysics, spends his retirement in Melvile, his hometown… Gravitating in his universe are Mia, an eleven-year-old girl whom Saul helps with her homework; Beth and Daniel, his friends and neighbors; space and light, the earth and ancient trees… and also them, two men who have come from afar and who carry the worst and most insidious of violence. An argument takes an ugly turn, a disturbing laugh, and Saul’s world explodes…
