The debut children’s book from Lucy Thornehaven, Welcome to the Pet Shelter is a young reader’s primer on living alongside pets, an invitation to support animal rescues, and a tool to help prepare for the responsibilities of pet ownership as a family. Focusing on less common domestic creatures like weasels and reptiles, this story uses bright color, charming illustration, and rhyming explanations to approachably teach that all animal companions deserve proper care. Inspired by the author’s own beloved rescue animals, Pet Shelter is heartfelt and educational, balancing the joys of adding pets to your household along with the realistic work required to care for them.
