Book Details

The artistic practice of Troy-Anthony Baylis has included performances, videos, paintings, collages, assemblages, photography, knittings, embroidery, artist multiples, costumes, installations, parade floats and more. His work explores a multitude of themes including colonisation, migration, trauma, racism, sexism, homophobia, sadness, reconciliation, dark and seemingly self-deprecating humour and unbridled joy. Troy-Anthony Baylis: Let it bleed represents a long overdue major monograph on the art of Troy-Anthony Baylis, compiling imagery from most major periods of the artist’s oeuvre including rarely seen and unpublished images. By doing so the publication draws interconnections between work that spans more than three decades of continuous practice. Troy-Anthony Baylis is a descendant of the Jawoyn people from the Northern Territory and also of Irish ancestry. He was born in 1976 and has been creating works of art since 1993. His multi-faceted artistic practice is founded in the process of ‘queering’ and unsettling ‘traditional’ ways of representing Aboriginality.
