‘Frog cakes at half forward’ is a non-fiction book on Aussie Rules Football with a quirky and creative twist. It features some of the standout players across Australia, from old-timers to today’s stars, as well as First Nations players and Women players in each of the positions on the field. The positions are matched with categories of everyday things. So, the different full forwards are types of fish, small forward pockets are clothes, tall forward pockets are wild things, centre half forwards are cars, half forward flankers are cakes, centres are dogs, wingers are birds, centre half backs are heroes, half back flankers are horses, full backs are buildings, small back pockets are gems, tall back pockets are songs, rucks are trees, ruck rovers are weapons, rovers are drinks and the interchanges are board games. The book is richly illustrated from the collections of the State Library of South Australia, as well as SANFL and AFL player images, and iconic South Australian images such as the Holden Car, Barossa Pearl sparkling wine, Leafy Sea Dragon, Stobie Pole and Police Greys.
