Part memoir, part social expose, this is the one anonymous nanny’s account of raising the children of the ultra-rich – and what she witnessed behind closed doors. The perfect nanny is invisible. She is trusted with everything: the children, their routines, the family secrets. She is expected to notice everything and remember nothing. For more than a decade, the Unnamed Nanny worked for some of the richest families in the world. She travelled on private jets, stayed on vast estates and luxury yachts, and helped raise children whose lives were planned years in advance. She saw separate apartments for young children; staff who were expected to disappear; parents who believed there was no problem that money couldn’t solve. She was paid to look after the children. She was expected to look away from everything else. Until she left. The families remain anonymous. So must she. Maybe We Were Born Better is an insider’s account of a world most of us will never enter. It asks a simple question: what happens when people grow up believing that privilege is natural, wealth is virtue, and the rules are for everyone else?
