Book Details

Wild Dogs and Fat Babies, a graphic memoir, offers a glimpse into the world of an artist and details her experiences with schizoaffective disorder. In this first volume a three volume series the author/artist explores how art can help find a path forward toward self-forgiveness, making mistakes, and finding healing through the process of illustration, specifically drawing from the imagination. Wild Dogs and Fat Babies should be considered an essential graphic novel and a key text to better understanding severe and very complex mental illness. AUTHOR: Tamara Bond is a maker of books, paintings and drawings that explore identity, mental illness, and her love of colour. Her most recent exhibition of paintings Plants and Animals was at Madrona Gallery in Victoria BC in the fall of 2025. Bond received her BFA from Emily Carr University in 1999. In 2004 her fantastical drawings were made into a chapbook published by Jackpine Press. Tamara’s drawings and paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada and she is the recipient of several Canada Council Grants. She is guest faculty at The Vancouver Island School of Art in Victoria BC where she teaches drawing. She is represented by Madrona Gallery in Victoria BC and Masters Gallery in Calgary AB.
