Detective Inspector John Rebus is hand-picked to help catch a serial killer down in London. The Edinburgh cop doesn’t like the big city and it doesn’t seem that his new colleagues at The Met like him much either. As the case gets its teeth into him, his only hope is to work with a psychological profiler to build a picture of the mind of a dangerous psychopath. But the closer Rebus gets to the truth, the closer he becomes with his only ally in the capital too, which may give the killer all he needs to win this game of cat-and-mouse and close the case for good.
